An Assistant Director of Income Maintenance Administration is a highly responsible level of work in the administration of the program of the Income Maintenance Administration. The employee in this classification serves as the Deputy Director of the Income Maintenance Administration. The employee in this classification is the primary assistant to the Director, and in the absence of the Director, acts with the Director's full authority. The employee in this classification shares responsibility for long-range planning, policy formulation and modification, budgeting, staffing, and implementation of programs. The employee in this classification exercises independent judgment in carrying out assigned responsibilities and extensive public contacts at many levels characterize the work. The employee in this classification is responsible for the supervision and leadership of subordinate professional and clerical staff.
The employee in this classification receives direction and guidance from the Director, Income Maintenance Administration. Work is evaluated through conferences and reports in terms of the effectiveness of recommendations, the quality of special projects, and the achievement of program goals.
The position in this classification is evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology. The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification.
Assumes responsibility for the management of the Income Maintenance Administration in the absence of the Director;
Advises the Director and other departmental officials regarding administrative problems and practices;
Assists the Director in program planning, development, and evaluation;
Evaluates proposed federal and State legislation or regulations and may prepare or issue statements of the Income Maintenance Administration's position;
Interprets departmental policies and operating procedures for subordinate staff;
Plans, conducts, or supervises special projects or analyses of the Administration's program;
Assists in the planning, preparation, and implementation of the Administration's budget;
Assists the Director in determining staff requirements of local departments according to need and resources;
Develops standards, policies, and procedures necessary to assist the Director in the administration of the Income Maintenance Administration;
Maintains communications with agencies and community organizations concerned with program services or income maintenance;
Performs other related duties.
