A Hydrographic Engineering Associate II is the full performance level of This is sub-professional technical work in the field of engineering, hydrography, surveying and marine construction. Employees in this classification participate in survey parties engaged in examining shoreline and submerged bottoms of the Chesapeake Bay, its tributaries and other Maryland waters. Employees in this classification conduct surveys from vessels for the purpose of delineating and marking classified bottoms. Employees in this classification make, fix and develop charts and maps of the shoreline and water areas, and may require assistance in the placement and relocation of buoys and shore erosion control devices. Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions.
Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a higher-level Hydrographic Engineering Associate or Engineer. Employees may work independently and provide instruction to lower-level employees.
Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology. The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification.
The Hydrographic Engineering Associate II is differentiated from the Hydrographic Engineering Associate I in that the Hydrographic Engineering Associate II performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision while the Hydrographic Engineering Associate I performs the duties under close supervision at times and under general supervision at other times depending on the complexity of the specific duty being performed. The Hydrographic Engineering Associate II is differentiated from the Hydrographic Engineering Associate III in that the Hydrographic Engineering Associate III acts as highly experienced surveyors of marine work involving the use of nautical surveying instruments and may also act as experienced marine construction experts, familiar with all phases of a project.
