Supervises the activities of employees engaged in the receiving and marking of clothing, bed and/or table linens, as well as other linen supplies used in the agencies;
Makes annual inventory reports and submits requisitions for yearly supplies to his supervisor;
Supervises the activities in connection with storage and laundering facilities whether they be on the grounds or whether such items are sent off the grounds laundering purposes;
Provides for the storage, maintenance and issuance of patient clothing;
Establishes individual patient clothing quotas and insures that such items are meeting the quotas;
Carries out policies and methods relating to the clothing program, and provides assistance to the business administrator in the development and establishment of such policies and practices;
Instructs new employees through in-service training activities;
Maintains employee time records and prepares their schedules;
Supervises activities in the sewing room area regarding production of clothing and linen supplies;
Is responsible for coordinating laundering supplies with other clothing service areas in order to insure that all patients, inmates or students have adequate clothing and linen supplies;
Performs other necessary duties as required.
Thorough knowledge of equipment, supplies, methods and practices used in laundering and repairing clothing and linens;
Knowledge of requisitioning of supplies and the maintenance of inventory records;
Knowledge of quality, durability, and design of clothing and linens;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and representatives of other organizations;
Ability to select applicants for employment;
Ability to develop and install methods and procedures and to evaluate their efficiency and effectiveness;
Abilty to maintain inventory records, keep accurate and complete reports and records;
Abilty to judge price trends in clothing and linen purchases;
Abilty to exercise good judgment and tact;
Abilty to plan and supervise the activities of others;
Education: Graduation from a standard high school,
Experience: Three years recent experience in an institutional or commercial laundry, dry cleaning, tailoring, or clothing service operations, one year of which must have involved supervisory responsibility.
Notes:
1. Additional experience may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for four years of the required education.
2. At least one year of the three years required experience must have been obtained within three years prior to the closing date for receiving applications.
1. Weekend Work: Persons appointed to this position may be required to be present for duty on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
2. Residence: Persons appointed to this position may be required to live on the grounds of the institution or agency.
