This is the entry level of technical electronic installation maintenance and repair work. Employees in this class are required to assist in the installation, repair and maintenance of standard and special purpose electronic equipment such as pulsars, recorders, timers, identifiers, sensors or indicators, including power supply units, and to assist in measuring or adjusting the frequency and deviation of related surveillance equipment. Employees may also assist in assembling, installing and relocating toll recorders, key boxes, traffic signal and recording devices and other electronic equipment.
Employees receive close supervision from a higher-level technician or supervisor. Employees in this class do not supervise other employees.
Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of toll recording equipment, traffic surveillance equipment, and/or other related electronic equipment;
Learns to calibrate transmitters and check for frequency deviations;
Receives instruction in the use of electronic test equipment;
Uses power hand tools;
Submits reports;
Performs other related duties.
Knowledge of electronic theory;
Knowledge of the installation and testing of electronic equipment; of the care and use of required manual and power tools;
Knowledge of applicable safety precautions.
Knowledge of repair practices concerning electronic components and circuitry and related equipment.
Ability to follow instructions; to use manual and power tools;
Ability to install and repair electronic equipment; to keep simple records;
Ability to work harmoniously with other employees.
Education: 1. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalency certificate.
2. Successful completion of an approved course in electronics theory, practice and equipment at a recognized school in electronics, radio, or television repair.
Note: 1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in electronic repair work, or formal schooling in electronics, on a year-for-year basis, for up to two years of required high school education.
2. Candidates may substitute
U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in
Electronics Mechanic classifications or Electronics Mechanic specialty codes in
the Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance field of work on a
year-for-year basis for the required education.
1. Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician. After an offer of employment, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.
2. Persons appointed to this position may, in some departments, be subject to call twenty-four hours a day in emergencies.
