An Elevator Inspector II is the full performance level of work in the inspection of elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts, hoists and other related devices in order to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and codes and to safeguard the general public. Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions, but may provide advice and guidance to lower-level Elevator Inspectors.
Employees in this classification receive general supervision from an Elevator Inspector Supervisor. The work is performed on-site in buildings and outdoor sites where travel is required and where working conditions may be dirty, dusty or uncomfortable. The work requires the use of specialized safety equipment such as safety shoes and gloves, protective earwear and eyewear, hardhats and safety lines. The work requires climbing, crawling, bending and stooping in confined places and at great heights.
Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology. The use of this method involves comparing assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work Sections of the class specification.
The Elevator Inspector I and the Elevator Inspector II are differentiated on the basis of supervisory control exercised by the supervisor over these employees. The Elevator Inspector I performs duties under close supervision at times and under general supervision at other times depending on the complexity of the specific duty being performed while the Elevator Inspector II performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision. The Elevator Inspector II is differentiated from the Elevator Inspector Supervisor in that the Elevator Inspector Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for lower-level Elevator Inspectors.
