An Amusement Ride Inspector I is the intermediate level of work in the inspection of amusement attractions, vertical, inclined and stairway chair lifts, personnel hoists and related devices to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and codes and to safeguard the general public.  Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions.

Employees in this classification receive moderate supervision from an Amusement Ride Inspector Supervisor or other designated administrator.  The work is performed at amusement parks, carnivals and outdoor sites in extreme weather conditions of heat, cold, wind, and snow and with dirty and greasy equipment.  The work requires the use of specialized safety equipment such as safety shoes and gloves, protective earwear and eyewear, hardhats and fall protection.  The work requires climbing, crawling, bending and stooping in confined spaces and at great heights.

Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology.  The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification.

The Amusement Ride Inspector I and Amusement Ride Inspector II are differentiated on the basis of the degree of supervisory control exercised by the supervisor over these employees.  The Amusement Ride Inspector I performs duties under close supervision at times and under general supervision at other times depending on the complexity of the specific duty being performed.  The Amusement Ride Inspector II performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision.
