A Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate I is the intermediate level of work taking initial claim reports and setting up claim files. Employees in this classification do not supervise.
Employees receive moderate supervision from a Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate, Supervisor or Casualty Claims Adjuster Supervisor.
Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate I and Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate II are differentiated on the basis of the degree of supervisory control exercised by the supervisor over these employees. Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate I performs duties under close supervision at times and under general supervision at other times depending on the complexity of the specific duty being performed. Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate II performs the full range of duties under general supervision.
Prepares initial claim reports and sets up claim files;
Prepares and processes first party, one vehicle accident claims;
Prepares and processes third party claims for claimants not represented by counsel and where no bodily injury is involved;
Prepares and transmits letters to the Assistant Attorney Generals Office, regarding the status of cases that are presently in litigation;
Diaries files for third party claims;
May perform other clerical functions for the Insurance Division, as required;
May operate the main switchboard for the Treasurer's Office and perform telephone duties in the Insurance Division, when assigned;
Performs other related duties.
Knowledge of the Maryland Tort Claims Act;
Knowledge of claims handling;
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software, such as WordPerfect and WINDOWS '95;
Ability to read and understand insurance and legal terminology;
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and files;
Ability to handle difficult problems under frequently changing situations;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers of the Insurance Division, staff of other State agencies and the general public;
Ability to organize and complete work assignments;
Ability to communicate effectively.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience in processing claims or providing customer services.
