A Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate, Supervisor is the supervisory level of work taking initial claim reports and setting up claim files. Employees in this classification supervise subordinate Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates.

Employees receive general supervision from a higher level Administrator.

Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate II and Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate, Supervisor are differentiated on the basis of supervisory responsibility. Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate II does not have supervisory responsibility, while Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate, Supervisor has full supervisory responsibility for subordinate Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates I and II.

Supervises the receipt of mail and claims and the distribution of claims to the appropriate unit personnel;

Supervises lower level Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates;

Assigns work of preparing claim reports and setting up claim files to subordinate Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates;

Resolves routine issues associated with the delay of claims processing;

Resolves problems or questions resulting from inquiries or complaints regarding claims handled by Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates;

Reviews initial claims reports prepared by Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates;

Reviews documentation prepared by Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates for first party, one vehicle accident claims and third party claims, for claimants not represented by counsel and where no bodily injury is involved;

Reviews requests for payments by Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates;

Reviews and authorizes letters to the Assistant Attorney Generals Office, regarding the status of cases that are presently in litigation;

Handles processing of claims that are administered by commercial carriers;

Makes recommendations for settlement of a claim to the Administrator;

Handles processing of summons and complaints;

Ensures that Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates follow the proper procedures for recording files for third party claims;

Trains lower level Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates;

Performs other related duties.

Knowledge of the Maryland Tort Claims Act;

Knowledge of claims handling;

Skill in the use of personal computers and related software, such as WordPerfect and WINDOWS '95;

Ability to read and understand insurance and legal terminology;

Ability to handle difficult problems under frequently changing situations;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers of the Insurance Division, staff of other State agencies and the general public;

Ability to assign and review the work of lower level Casualty Claims Adjuster Associates;

Ability to plan and direct the activities of subordinate employees and instruct them in their duties and responsibilities;

Ability to communicate effectively;

Ability to supervise.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in processing claims or providing customer services and at least one year of supervisory experience.
