To provide for the orderly and effective management and continuous operation of the Department of General Services Maryland Capitol Police Force. This position responsible for the day to day operational management of the department. The position supervises the rank of Captains, which command Detachments/Divisions and lieutenants, which command specialized Sections reporting directly to Headquarters.

The position reports directly to the Chief of Police and Deputy Chief of Police and is third in command. The position can assume overall command of the department in the Chief and Deputy Chief's absence.
