NATURE OF WORK

An Assistant Attorney General VII is the fully experienced level of senior Attorneys who have demonstrated a high level of competence. Employees in this classification act as General Counsel to a department or a deputy to a Division Chief or Principal Counsel or as the top senior Attorney under a Principal Counsel in a large agency governing many institutions.  Employees in this classification have broad supervisory responsibilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

As General Counsel to a department or deputy to a Division Chief or Principal Counsel or the top senior attorney under a Principal Counsel, this level provides for the responsibility of a full range of legal services, to include official opinions, letters of advice, litigation support, as well as daily counsel to a department and/or its many institutions.

This classification is not assigned to a bargaining unit, as indicated by the designation of S (Supervisor), M (Manager), T (Agency Head), U (Board or Commission Member), W (Student), X (Used by Agency or Excluded by Executive Order), or Z (Confidential).  As provided by State Personnel and Pensions Article, Section 3-102, special appointment, temporary, contractual, supervisory, managerial and confidential employees are excluded collective bargaining.  Additionally, certain executive branch agencies are exempt from collective bargaining and all positions in those agencies are excluded from collective bargaining.
