An Electrician is the full performance level of unlicensed electrical work installing, repairing, testing and maintaining electrical systems including high-voltage service (13,000 or more volts), equipment, fixtures, and control devices. Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions.
Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a maintenance supervisor or other supervisory position. Work may be performed under the direction of an Electrician Senior. Employees may be subject to call-in on a 24-hour basis. Work may be performed in extremes of heat and cold and employees may be exposed to noisy, dirty and uncomfortable conditions. The work may require the use of protective equipment such as safety goggles, face shields and gloves when drilling into metal, masonry or concrete; masks and respirators when working around asbestos; and insulated rubber gloves and sleeves when working around high voltage lines. Work may be performed in confined spaces at different heights and may require moving objects in excess of 50 pounds.
Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology. The use of this method involves comparing assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work Sections of the class specification.
