Summary

The Transit Rail Maintenance Assistant will perform rail car interior and exterior cleaning and disinfecting.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Cleaning and disinfecting on rail cars includes but is not limited to sweeping and mopping, cleaning and disinfecting of walls, windows, seats, stainless steel, cab and passenger areas, and all exterior areas on rail vehicles; cleaning of shop areas and equipment; cleaning and disinfecting of non-revenue and emergency support vehicles; may also be required to provide cleaning support on the mainline and other service areas. May be called upon to provide support for other areas in regard to Light Rail Service, Streetcar, Wayside and Public Safety and Service.  Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and obtain a City Driving Permit.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Physical Requirements:

v Ability to lift and carry at least 60 lbs.

v Must be able to manipulate 100 lbs.

v Must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces while working.

v Must be able to sit, bend, twist, kneel, reach, crouch, lying down prone or supine, at shoulder level or above or any combination listed while performing work.

v Ability to work at and above shoulder level.

v Must be able to work in all required Personal Protective Equipment and Safety gear.

v Must be able to work in the assigned uniform approved by CATS.

v Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

v Must be able to work at heights on platforms and man lifts.

v Must be able to work in pits and under lifted heavy equipment.

v Vision – vision must be 20/20 or correctable to 20/20 (near, distance and peripheral)


MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE


Preferred Qualification

Required experience in vehicle cleaning, janitorial services or similar vocation. Experience in the cleaning and servicing of Light Rail Vehicles or other transit vehicles preferred.

Candidate will be required to work irregular hours and shifts, and may be required to respond to emergencies on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis.

Must be able to accurately document work on logs, spreadsheets, documents and forms as well as utilizing computerized maintenance terminals.

Must have the ability to capable use all tools of the trade as well as standard shop equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires High School Diploma or GED

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
