Summary
Oversees the Loading Dock Supervisors, the loading dock operation, and the logistics planning for all terminal deliveries. The Lead will also serve as one of the Loading Dock Supervisors, responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment while planning, directing, and controlling usage of the loading docks, pods, and nodes. The Loading Dock Lead will cover the loading dock shifts when the Loading Dock Supervisors are out.
General Information:
• This position will be responsible for covering the shifts of the Loading Dock Supervisors when out.
• Must be available to take calls 24/7 from staff, tenants and/or vendors.
• First shift hours of work are Monday through Friday, 4:30am - 1:00pm, with a 30-minute lunch break.
• Second shift hours of work include Monday through Friday, 9:30am – 5:30pm, and Saturday 5:30am - 1:00pm, plus “flexible” three hours each week as needed by assignment.
• Overnight shift hours include Sunday through Thursday, 11:00pm – 7:00am and may include other work hours to meet the needs of operations.
• Work required at other times for meetings, special events and emergencies/urgent matters.
• Valid driver’s license that meets guidelines for a City Driving Permit required.
• Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Supervise the terminal dock supervisors to ensure that Airport tenant logistics operations are managed efficiently, safely, and securely.
2. Ensure full coverage of the Loading Docks; working a regular shift as well as filling in to cover shifts when Dock Supervisors are out, performing all their job responsibilities.
3. Serve as the primary contact for tenants and team to reach 24/7, for urgent issues and needed changes.
4. Train Loading Dock Supervisors on all necessary protocols and keep them abreast of any changes.
5. Coordinate Airport tenant logistics operations, ensuring that all logistics and security policies, procedures and regulations are followed.
6. Communicate overnight deliveries to all necessary departments and contractors.
7. Educate tenant company representatives and their contractors on delivery protocols and ensure compliance.
8. Work with tenant company representatives and stakeholders to manage the logistics of scheduled work.
9. Maintain the dock schedule to stagger deliveries and avoid long wait times.
10. Maintain open communications with tenant company representatives and resolve issues as they occur to streamline deliveries.
11. Report safety hazards, and unsafe practices and procedures to tenant company representatives, and the Terminal Property Manager.
12. Maintain records of preventative maintenance of dock equipment and order replacements as needed.
13. Ensure that dock area is kept free of debris. Keep empty crates, pallets, and kegs organized.
14. Ensure contractors do not impede loading dock operations and help develop work arounds as necessary.
15. Regularly walk the terminal basement hallways, all delivery docks, storage nodes and pods to ensure the area is kept orderly and ramp areas are free of FOD. Identify and resolve unsafe practices and safety hazards. Report problems to tenant company representatives, and the Terminal Property Manager.
16. Visit concession warehouses ensuring compliance with established policies.
17. Other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Ability to manage a team of terminal dock supervisors to ensure that the receipt and delivery of tenant goods, supplies, and equipment occur in an efficient, safe, and secure manner.
• Ability to manage the staff schedule to ensure full coverage of all required shifts.
• Knowledge of and skills to use Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to learn established scheduling software.
• Ability to coordinate the schedule and logistics of all delivery points in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to multi-task and react to changing situations in a calm and professional manner.
• Skills to provide first-rate customer service and represent the Airport in a positive and professional manner.
• Familiarity with safe work practices with regard to loading dock operations, and safe egress in the basement hallways of the terminal.
• Ability to learn and follow CLT Security regulations and teach tenants the same.
• Excellent organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
This position is active with extended periods of walking and standing in an exterior loading dock environment with exposure to moving vehicles, dust, fumes, and inclement weather. Additional activities may include sitting, bending, reaching, lifting, or twisting.
Preferred Qualification
Prefer an associate degree plus one year experience and relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.
Must have demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software; record keeping, filing, logistics and warehouse/dock management in a high-volume loading dock environment.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years relevant work experience
