Introduction

Storm Water Services' mission is to serve the City of Charlotte by improving surface waters and conveying rainwater safely through well-maintained storm drainage systems. Each year Storm Water Services invests $100+ million in capital improvements and staff manages hundreds of storm drainage improvement projects. Storm Water Services is one of the largest stormwater utilities in the Southeast with approximately 215,000 customer accounts and more than 200 full-time positions.

Summary

This internship is based in Charlotte Storm Water Services. It requires a creative, collaborative, and dependable individual to join the communication team responsible for implementing external and internal communications that reflect Storm Water Services’ mission and goals. This internship provides full-time employment during the summer. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Create and design print and digital materials
Photograph staff and projects and retouch images
Write and edit written copy using AP style guidelines
Review project data and text across multiple platforms and web pages to ensure accuracy
Print/photocopy materials as requested
Assist with community meetings and events 
Collaborate with the Communication Team to develop design concepts
Receive feedback from the Communication Team and make necessary changes
Adhere to brand guidelines and complete projects according to deadline
Perform other administrative tasks and duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, etc.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud products including Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
Basic knowledge of layouts, color, and other graphic design fundamentals
Basic knowledge of photography fundamentals
Strong creative and analytical skills
Strong customer services skills
Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships
Ability to perform within an integrated, fast-paced team environment

Preferred Qualification

Graphic Design major preferred

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled as undergraduate college student with course study in graphic design, communications or related curriculum

Salary

$14-$18; Depending on Year Currently Enrolled in School

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
