Summary
The City of Charlotte’s Housing & Neighborhood Services Department is hiring a Mayor's Youth Employment Program (MYEP) Liaison within its Community Engagement Division. This dynamic division is a recognized leader in supporting residents and youth in creating communities and careers they want through comprehensive information, inclusive planning, resource support and celebration of accomplishments. Amongst other responsibilities, we empower Charlotte’s youth through exposure to the world of work through summer internships, career readiness training, job shadowing opportunities, pre-apprenticeship pathways and more.
The Mayor's Youth Employment Program Liaison plays a meaningful role in connecting opportunity and effecting upward economic mobility for charlotte’s high school-aged youth through promotion of youth program employment opportunities, student and host employer recruitment and pipeline management. This award-winning program offers a fast paced, creative, and team-oriented environment which priorities celebrating successes and supporting one another to achieve our personal best. This position is part of the Youth Programs team and reports to the MYEP Program Manager.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Building Constituent Relationships & Networks
- Cultivates and manages relationships with local and regional businesses & organizations to recruit qualified program partners to host or financially sponsor high school-aged youth for paid summer internships
- Regularly communicates by phone & email with prospective host employers using BusinessWise and Classe365 to track prospects through recruitment lifecycles
- Develops / implements / maintains key recruitment initiatives to help facilitate recruitment of qualified host employers including interdepartmental collaboration, participation in advisory boards, serving on committees, attending professional association meetings & events and other activities as directed
- Identifies & stays abreast of current employment trends in industries of particular interest to, or providing greatest opportunity for, Charlotte youth
- Works in conjunction with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) leadership to promote and deliver programming to school-level stakeholders
Program Management and Communication
- Coordinate and assess effectiveness of all Youth Programs communications, including the development of social media content and email campaigns, in collaboration with H&NS Communications and Marketing team
- Support development & execution of annual enrollment plan to achieve or exceed annual training, conversion, and matriculation targets
- Serve as a resource to other departments, represents the program & department at activities / events / meetings / committees / conferences
- Conduct analysis on effectiveness of marketing programs & make improvement recommendations
- Assist with implementation of student interviews using SparkHire platform
- Remain informed of national / state / local hiring practices / guidelines / labor related issues pertaining to internships
- Assist with the data management & monitoring for youth program applicants
- Market & promote youth programs to youth / neighborhood groups / businesses / peer departments, other community organizations & stakeholders
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Administrative
- Assist with the management of student & employer recruitment assignments by researching, compiling, and analyzing various data and creating proposals for outreach & presentation of findings to management with improvement recommendations as applicable
- Analyze programmatic data to drive business decisions through data management platforms including Monday.com, Classe365 and Excel
- Assist with meeting and event scheduling, planning and implementation as needed
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Preferred Qualification
- Five years of experience in career services / human resources / enrollment management / corporate recruiting / secondary or higher education / related field
- Experience with internship coordination / career assessment tools / knowledge of career development theory & counseling
- Valid driver’s license, along with the ability to acquire a City driving permit, to attend off-site meetings
- Bilingual or Multi-lingual (Spanish / Vietnamese)
Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of relevant work experience in youth services/programming, secondary/post-secondary education, or business development; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties
Salary
$53,313 to $59,977, commensurate with experience
