Summary
The Economic Development Department is seeking an innovative professional to lead business recruitment efforts among other organizational initiatives. The strategic leader will be responsible for creating new jobs within the city from both new-to-market and existing businesses, growing the city’s tax base and growing and supporting the local business community. This position will also play an influential role within the department and lend industry expertise in business recruitment, talent development, incentives, and real estate to the team on department-wide initiatives. A qualified leader and strong, creative project manager will demonstrate their ability to develop customized solutions for clients, and the ability to deliver them with a high level of client service. This position will report directly to the Deputy Director of Economic Development.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Work directly with leadership team to implement strategic initiatives
• Facilitate and manage all aspects of a site location project, from initial contact, research, proposal, presentations, prospect visit, negotiation, location decision and announcement.
• Manage the Business Investment Program, including preparing proposals, negotiating incentives, obtaining City Council approval, and solidifying with an agreement.
• Cultivate and actively maintain meaningful professional relationships with economic development stakeholders and allies, site consultants, real estate brokers as well as established and prospective businesses, through various forms of regular contact and communication and reporting to the Assistant City Manager
• Support organizational initiatives as needed, including conducting research, determining fiscal/economic impacts of projects, preparing and delivering high-level correspondence and presentations, developing itineraries, agendas and supporting materials
• Participate in the budget process and maintain high level of fiscal responsibility
• Be very familiar with the city’s marketable assets, business leadership, brokerage community, talent partners, etc.
• Recognize emerging needs and interests of key stakeholders, including internal, economic development, real estate brokers and prospective businesses
• Partner with the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina to bring prospective companies to Charlotte
• Co-lead the #MeetCharlotte marketing campaign to build awareness in key industry sectors and target markets
• Maintain knowledge of economic development trends and opportunities for business growth by attending relevant conferences, tradeshows, marketing missions, and site consultant visits
• Monitor and measure project activity and pipeline through entry into Salesforce
• Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualification
• Graduate level degree in economics, public administration, urban planning, communications, marketing, or business administration.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in economics, public administration, urban planning, communications, marketing, or business administration
• Five (5) or more years of experience in business development, strategy, planning or related areas
Salary
$82,707 to $93,045 Commensurate with Experience

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
