General Services consists of capital project management, fleet services, procurement, environmental services, property management, and other support services.

Summary
The City of Charlotte's Department of General Services is seeking a Fleet Shop Supervisor that will be responsible for providing guidance and leadership to a team of skilled automotive and equipment maintenance technicians for the City of Charlotte. The position supervises the scheduling of staff and prioritizes the needs of the shift. It provides critical customer service by consistently communicating with departments for fleet availability and customer concerns. The Shop Supervisor monitors, reviews, and analyzes key performance reports for vehicle repair status updates and completion of work orders. The position oversees the maintenance of shop equipment and monitors the shop area to eliminate unsafe and hazardous working conditions. Major emphasis for this position includes leadership, customer service, innovative approach to problem solving, and communication. This is a second shift position.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the Fleet Shop Supervisor
- Assist the Shop Manager in leading the shop on a daily basis
- Provide technical support to staff by answering questions and acting as a teacher and mentor to employees
- Identify current and future training needs for employees
- Provides customer service to internal city departments by consistently communicating and coordinating fleetwide projects and initiatives
- Monitors work order status and dates to increase fleet availability
- Build credibility and trust with staff, operational departments and local vendors by developing relationships and establishing trust with partners
- Assist in efforts to develop procedures and processes to maintain a safe and productive working environment
- Serve a leadership role in the overall operations of Fleet Management and the General Services Department
- Monitor and document employee performance as related to annual performance reviews
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Broad knowledge and experience in the repair and maintenance of light and heavy-duty fleet equipment.
• Knowledge of and ability to use FASTER or similar computer-based fleet information management systems
• Ability to work independently and confidence to make fair and reasonable decisions based on facts of the situation
• Prefer progressively responsible leadership and organizational experience in fleet management with a demonstrated ability to effectively direct and guide a team
• Proven customer service, collaboration, conflict management, interpersonal communication, and process improvement skills are essential
• Ability to evaluate customer satisfaction, develop cooperative associations, and utilize resources to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
• Computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word and Excel)
Preferred Qualification
Degree or certification from an accredited technical school or college
Manufacturer training certification recognized by ASE, or relevant ASE certifications
At least five years of leadership experience in a fleet shop operation
Minimum Qualifications
Requires graduation from high school/GED and a minimum three (3) years of considerable experience in performing automotive/equipment work on a diverse range of light and heavy equipment; supplemented by at least three (3) years of progressive supervisory experience in fleet maintenance and repair environment.
Salary
$58,779 - $73,474 Commensurate With Experience
