Summary

The graphic design internship with Charlotte Douglas International Airport is an opportunity to experience working with a Marketing team creating and updating internal and customer-facing design work. This position focuses primarily on print and digital media. The intern will have an understanding of branding and other visual communications and will have an opportunity to brainstorm concepts and be involved in Marketing meetings with different work groups within the Aviation department. An interest in video and photography is a plus.

Preferred Qualification

  • Two to three years of design education and have interest in pursuing a BA or BFA in graphic design.
  • Knowledge of the practices and techniques used in the field of graphic design as related to advertising, marketing, public relations, web applications and social media marketing.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficient in other MAC/PC software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Experience using project management software a plus.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and vendors.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and self-motivation in a rapidly changing work environment.
  • Ability to participate in a number of projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to take direction and handle edits/redesigns based on feedback.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.


Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in an accredited college or university leading towards a Bachelor's degree with major course work in a related field of study specific to the departmental and/or work assignment.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
