Introduction

The Charlotte Business Inclusion (CBI) Office seeks to enhance competition and participation of Minority, Women, and Small Business Enterprises (MWSBEs) in city contracting; increase certified MWSBE vendor pool and assist city-certified firms in growing, enhancing, and developing their businesses; and provide development programs that support certified businesses in organizational training, strategic development, and networking opportunities.

Summary

The CBI Outreach and Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing outreach and engagement initiatives aimed at supporting Minority, Women, and Small Business Enterprises (MWSBE), as well as fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This role also includes managing social media marketing efforts and producing and overseeing CBI's newsletter.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

MWSBE Outreach and Engagement:
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate educational initiatives such as workshops, webinars, and training programs                  
  • Organize, schedule, and oversee quarterly MWSBE networking and matchmaking events.
  • Work with MWSBE businesses to identify resources and opportunities within the city contracting   
  • landscape
  • Provide regular updates to CBI’s internal outreach calendar and the CBI website
  • Occasional North Carolina (Statewide travel) 
Internal Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Conduct regular presentations and updates for city leadership on MWSBE initiatives and achievements
  • Collaborate with city departments to establish cross-departmental teams focused on MWSBE 
  • participation goals
  • Support monitoring and reporting on MWSBE participation rates across city departments
City Council and Staff Engagement:
  • Prepare and provide quarterly reports for City Council on MWSBE engagement efforts and
  • outcomes
  • Encourage and track staff participation in MWSBE outreach initiatives
  • Seek opportunities for staff recognition and awards related to MWSBE engagement
External Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Build and maintain partnerships with prime contractors to promote MWSBE subcontracting          
  • opportunities
  • Collaborate with local community organizations to co-host MWSBE events and initiatives
  • Represent CBI at external events and functions related to MWSBE support and economic inclusion
Social Media Marketing:
  • Develop and execute a social media marketing strategy to promote CBI's initiatives and events
  • Create engaging content, including posts, graphics, and videos, to increase CBI's online presence
  • Monitor social media metrics and adjust strategies as needed to achieve engagement goals
Newsletter Production and Management:
  • Produce and manage CBI's newsletter, including content creation, design, and distribution
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to gather relevant content
  • Ensure the newsletter aligns with CBI's messaging and branding



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of MWSBE initiatives and economic inclusion strategies
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in social media management and content creation
  • Experience with newsletter production and email marketing platforms
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the local business community and government processes is a plus

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field and at least two years of experience in outreach and engagement, preferably in a government or non-profit or equivalent education, background and experience to perform the essential duties of the position.
