Summary
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control is seeking a creative and outgoing individual to help support the organization’s communications team as we continue to expand our lifesaving programs. The full-time temporary communications specialist will work with communications team members to build content for social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok). In addition, the person in this role will also be responsible for communication with members of the public through various means of communication outlets including, but not limited to social media channels, emails, and phone calls. The role will also work with the Communications Manager on content for the website, and website editing. The successful candidate will need to be flexible as the world of social media and the latest trends and technology are ever-changing. They need to be willing to try new ideas, willing to work outside the box, be creative, and work well with other team members and volunteers. Superb customer service skills are a must.

Animal welfare is a passion-driven field; thus, navigating public opinion can be tricky and requires a true professional to handle emotionally charged conversations. This position may require occasional evening and weekend work. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control is the largest animal welfare organization in the state of North Carolina.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for researching and turning content ideas into videos, images, infographics, and text captions.
• Assist the Communications Manager and team to create and execute a content calendar.
• Create various forms of social media content--text captions, videos, and images--suitable for the various social media platforms, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
• Publish posts according to the established social media content calendar.
• Collaborate with the Communications Manager and Comms team to ensure that every piece of content is relevant and helps ACC maximize engagement and reach.
• Ensure every piece of content you create aligns with the ACC brand voice.
• Assist with other activities such as fundraisers, community outreach, adoption events, and special events as needed.
• Work with the Communications Manager when you need guidance on animal welfare or ACC-related questions.
• Assist the Communications Manager to create content and make updates for the ACC website.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• An interest in current social media trends is required to be successful in this role.
• Knowledge of social media trends, hashtags, and engagement strategy.
• Ability to work with creative tools like Adobe and Canva and video editing software.
• Ability to turn a concept into compelling content on different social media platforms.
• Experience in creating engaging content on different social media platforms.
• Proven experience in creating content on multiple social media platforms – (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok).
• Ability to take compelling photos and videos.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to make sound decisions on appropriate content.

Physical Requirements:
• Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods.

• Repeating motions of holding, grasping, turning, that may include the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
• Light to moderate lifting and carrying.
Sensory Requirements:
• Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proof reading, data entry, tabulating data.
• Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain.
• Comprehension of written information in work related documents.
• Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions; moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as officers, community members, victims, etc.); and frequent exposure to computer screens, files and phone.
Preferred Qualification
• At least two years of experience producing content for social media or communications.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud
• Experience with video editing software
• Previous employment in the social media specialist field.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
Minimum Qualifications
High School Graduate or Equivalent and one year relevant work experience
OR
Associate's Degree
Valid Driver’s License
Comfortable with a variety of domestic pets (dogs and cats primarily)
Conditions of Employment
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
