Summary

The Social Media Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of social media and communications initiatives across multiple social media accounts. Work involves communication and coordination with various departments and organizations. Independent judgment and initiative are exercised within established guidelines; performance evaluated on the basis of discussions and work products. Tasks require a strong attention to detail, excellent digital customer service skills and ability to work under tight deadlines. Must be able to work flexible schedules. On call 24/7/365. Reports to the Public Affairs Manager. 

General Information:
  • This is a hybrid position (with a minimum of two days in the office) where standard office hours apply Monday through Friday. Additionally, attendance required at after-hours meetings, and during urgent or special situations. Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for and maintain a City driving permit.
  • Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages, develops and builds a social team that can execute creative work to be leveraged across our platforms.
  • Leads team in the development of social media strategies and best practices working with and mentoring the Social Media Specialist.
  • Develops the Airport social media presence across existing platforms including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn while exploring new areas for growth.
  • Reviews, oversees and optimizes all social media briefs and social content in development before it goes live to ensure it meets overall strategy, look and feel, and tone.
  • Serves as the final approver on all social content and provides strategic/creative feedback in line with social strategy, measurable objectives and targets.
  • Liaises and communicates plans with internal & external stakeholders around content campaigns relevant to Airport upcoming projects.
  • Maintains brand voices and tone for individual properties through copy, content and creative across multiple platforms.
  • Engages key influencers within target audience segments and identifies unique partnership opportunities.
  • Develops and reports against key performance indicators and success metrics in order to drive business.
  • Works with marketing and comms team to ensure alignment with company-wide strategies and policies.
  • Leads end-to-end management of enterprise social media, including listening/moderation, organic social integration, social content planning, and enterprise policies and procedures.
  • Optimizes distinct strategies for current social channels and evaluates expansion to additional channels.
  • Defines and develops the marketing social roadmap through implementation, including on-going data and reporting requirements.
  • Analyzes data to evaluate the effectiveness of current social content performance and independently initiate new process and creative ideas to inform future campaigns and initiatives.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and implement change in workflows, processes and budget management.
  • Serves as a key and trusted social media leader, both cross-functionally and with partners, externally and internally.

Preferred Qualification

High School graduate or equivalent and seven years relevant experience, or associate degree and five years of relevant experience, Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, and master’s degree and one year of relevant experience in public relations, social media content development, marketing, communication. Demonstrated experience actively managing the tactical and day-to-day operations of social media across multiple accounts is highly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent and seven years relevant experience.

Or

Associate's Degree and five years relevant experience.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
