Summary

The eSERVE Academy Communications Launchpad Project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at establishing the communication foundations for the newly created eSERVE Academy within the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS). The eSERVE Academy Intern will be the key player in developing, organizing, and executing the communication strategies that will introduce and promote the Academy to internal and external stakeholders.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Craft the eSERVE Academy's core communications message and strategy. 
  • Develop internal and external ongoing communications plans for the eSERVE Academy. 
  • Develop communication materials, including digital content, informational brochures and press releases. 
  • Implement a targeted outreach campaign to engage employees, potential partners and the public. 
  • Establish a digital presence for the eSERVE Academy, including a website strategy and social media strategy. 
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and adapt plans accordingly.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Attention to detail and ability to think critically and independently strongly desired. 
  • General interest in the following topics: communications, storytelling, photography (iPhone, camera, etc.), writing, social media and media relations/press releases. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written). 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other City employees and the public. 
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). 
  • Ability to learn CATS processes and ask appropriate questions. 
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to participate and work well in a team environment.

Preferred Qualification

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in an accredited college or university leading towards a Bachelor's degree with major course work in a related field of study specific to the departmental and/or work assignment.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
