Storm Water Services' mission is to serve the City of Charlotte by improving surface waters and conveying rainwater safely through well-maintained storm drainage systems. Each year Storm Water Services invests $100+ million in capital improvements and staff manages hundreds of storm drainage improvement projects. Storm Water Services is one of the largest stormwater utilities in the Southeast with approximately 215,000 customer accounts and nearly 250 full-time positions.

Summary

This position serves as an Engineering Project Coordinator for the Planning team within the Strategic Planning and Operations Division of Storm Water Services and supports the capital project identification and prioritization for both major and minor storm water projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with the evaluation and prioritization of the City’s drainage system with considerations for hydraulic capacity and structural condition
  • Assists with the identification, ranking, and assignment of future storm drainage improvement projects
  • Performs/evaluates hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of investigation areas
  • Prepares drainage repair/maintenance plans and cost estimates
  • Maintains and analyzes databases involving GIS mapping and analysis tools
  • Research, organize, and assess drainage related service request 
  • Assists with investigations and asset management inspections as necessary
  • Collaborating with Asset Management 
  • Support strategic initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analysis
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, prepare, and explain complex technical reports, data, technical specifications and recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Drainage Manual, City of Charlotte Land Development Standards, NCDOT Standards and Specifications, and other local ordinances, requirements, and manuals
  • A valid driver’s license, a good driving record with the ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit

Preferred Qualification

  • Licensure as an Engineering Intern or Professional Engineer is preferred
  • Proficiency with the open and close drainage system models 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field and one (1) year of progressive work experience in planning, design and construction of storm drainage systems.

Salary

  • $80,422.00 - $89,357.00 Commensurate with Experience
