Introduction

The Office of Charlotte Business Inclusion (CBI) seeks to enhance competition and participation of Minority, Women, and Small Business Enterprises (MWSBEs) in city contracting; increase certified MWSBE vendor pool and assist city-certified firms in growing, enhancing, and developing their businesses; and provide development programs that support certified businesses in organizational training, strategic development, and networking opportunities.

Summary

This position provides CBI Program training, coaching, training materials and other supportive resources to internal City departments and vendors doing business with the City of Charlotte.  Much of training relates to communicating key compliance information.  This role reports to the Business Inclusion Manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create CBI training presentations and documents for city departments and vendors doing business with the city.
  • Develop training and coaching strategies and initiatives to further training and understanding around CBI Program requirements.
  • Develop presentation and outreach materials for monthly vendor facing InclusionCLT training (CBI’s compliance tracking system).
  • Lead monthly InclusionCLT training, CBI Program Pre-Construction workshop and other trainings and workshop as required.
  • Develop curriculum and implement CBI compliance training for vendors and departments.
  • Develop curriculum for other trainings and workshops as required.
  • Create content for interactive new CBI initiative CBI-TV, a monthly video production related to CBI content.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with department CBI Liaisons and other department leadership. 
  • Provide compliance related support and training to departments and vendors. 
  • Take initiative to identify additional areas of opportunity for CBI Program and compliance training internally and externally.
  • Support and collaborate in the development of business process documentation for training purposes.
  • Create and coordinate continuous improvement strategies related to training and coaching

  • Requires organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create curriculum, graphics, and presentations to support training initiatives.
  • Ability to think strategically about current and future processes and implement strategies to support the continuing needs of the Program. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly motivated professional able to function with minimal supervision. 

Preferred Qualification

  • Proven track record in advancing DEI initiatives, preferably with experience in business inclusion efforts.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management abilities, with a focus on delivering results within tight timelines.
  • Highly autonomous, demonstrating initiative and the capacity to innovate and problem-solve in dynamic environments.
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and capacity for adopting new technologies and systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related fields, with considerable experience in strategic roles that encompass partnership development, stakeholder engagement, and initiative management.
  • Innate ability to navigate complex discussions and foster consensus, driving forward the objectives of the CBI program with tact and diplomacy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree and one year of related experience or Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related fields, or equivalent combination of education, skills and strengths to perform the duties of the position.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
