Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating the formal Internship and Cooperative-Learning (Co-Op) Programs, as well as assisting and coordinating youth career engagement activities and various outreach initiatives within Workforce Development for the Aviation Department at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The Aviation Department includes a diverse workforce of more than 700 employees occupying over 100 different job classifications (e.g. laborers, skilled trades, paraprofessional and professional occupations).  Additional responsibilities include assisting with pre-employment for both the Internship and Co-Op programs and assisting the Workforce Development and Outreach team with candidate interview coordination. Develop, coordinate, and manage the internal Job Shadowing Program, ensuring success for both the division host and employee participating in program. Work involves contact with the public, colleges and universities, high schools, students, various organizations, community resource centers, and City employees, as well as other duties as assigned.  Work is performed under the guidance and supervision of the Workforce Development and Outreach Manager, and performance is evaluated based on program flow and success, feedback and results obtained.  Initiative is expected.

General Information:
Primarily works office hours Monday through Friday, but schedule also requires some evenings and weekends due to scheduled events.  Schedule subject to irregular hours and overtime.
Valid driver’s license in state of residency and ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit. 
Ability to pass a background check in advance of start date required.  Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Coordinate and manage student employment programs, including College Internships, Co-Ops, and the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program (MYEP).  Work with Workforce Development and Outreach Manager, and division supervisors and managers to identify needs and annual budgetary requirements for such programs.  Distribute internship and Co-Op opportunities to colleges and universities.  Assist hiring managers with screening applications.  Monitor pre-employment, program success, discuss concerns and recommendations with the Workforce Development and Outreach Manager.
2. Coordinate the Opportunity Scholarship Program in partnership with CPCC. 
3. Coordinate, engage, and partner with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure outreach initiatives are planned and executed for departmental success. 
4. Partner with Strategic Communications and Marketing to promote activities, meetings, programs, and outreach initiatives.
5. Partner with the Culture and Engagement Committee to ensure outreach initiatives are met, and overall departmental success. 
6. Develop, coordinate, and manage the internal Job Shadowing Program to assist with career development for internal employees. Work with division directors, managers, and division team members to ensure success of program. 
7. Engage with community and airport partners, representing both the City of Charlotte and Aviation Department in a professional and positive manner.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Skills to manage time well and keep work organized in an effective manner. 
Skills to prepare and present clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials. 
Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally as well as in writing.
Ability to identify and analyze problems as well as identify possible solutions in support of established goals.
Ability to identify and effectively respond to issues, concerns, and needs.
Ability to work independently as well as a team member with diverse workgroups.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City departments, and the public, representing the Airport in a positive manner.  

Preferred Qualification

Major course work in Human Resources, Communication, Higher Education, Psychology, Business, Organizational or Talent Management, or a related field of study. Master’s Degree preferred. 

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years related work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and three years related work experience

OR

Bachelor's Degree and one level related work experience

OR

Master's Degree
