Summary

The City of Charlotte’s Human Resources Department is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, highly collaborative Compensation Analyst to join our team. The compensation analyst will implement and administer compensation programs; have a demonstrated reputation of strong problem solving; be highly responsive, and customer oriented. As a member of our team, you will support the compensation function in the design, development, and on-going analysis and management of our organization-wide compensation programs and initiatives.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Consult with client teams on compensation matters relating to offers, promotions, retention, and internal equity and market adjustments.
Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate and approve position reclassifications to ensure FLSA compliance and alignment with the City of Charlotte’s job architecture and applicable pay programs. 
Assist in the annual salary planning activities
Participate in compensation surveys to collect and analyze competitive pay information to determine the City of Charlotte’s competitive position. Conduct custom salary surveys and compensation practices of other municipalities.
Makes recommendations to management regarding new compensation policies and procedures.
Supports the planning and communication of all compensation programs.
Prepare presentations, reports, memorandums, as necessary to train and educate assigned client groups regarding classification and compensation. 
Facilitate compensation program compliance with federal and state legislation (i.e., FLSA, EEO).

Preferred Qualification

Experience with an integrated HR/Payroll system such as Workday or Oracle
Experienced with market pricing software such as Market Pay 
Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification is preferred. 
3 – 5 years of related experience in compensation, classification, and analytics
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including look up tables and pivot tables
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to interpret complex compensation data and present it to co-workers clearly and succinctly
Well organized and works independently but a strong team player

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and seven years related work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and five years related work experience

OR

Bachelor's Degree and three years related work experience

OR

Master's Degree and one year related work experience

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
