Summary

Works as an assistant to various building tradesman at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Locating and repairing malfunctions in plumbing systems, electrical systems, HVAC systems, inspecting, servicing, testing, performing PM’s and repairing associated equipment.  Perform other general maintenance work incidental to above duties, or necessary to keep buildings in working order.



General Information:
Works assigned shift.  Schedule subject to irregular hours, overtime and emergency calls back to work.
Valid driver’s license in state of residency and ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit. 
Ability to pass a background check in advance of start date required.  Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of plumbing, electrical and HVAC equipment.
2. General building maintenance work, including manual labor, incidental to above duties or necessary to keep buildings in working order.
3. Perform preventive maintenance on underground sewer, drainage systems, lift stations and associated equipment.  
4. Compile lists of equipment, tools and supplies needed.
5. Perform repairs to carpet, security doors and gates, passenger seating and overall appearance to the traveling public.
6. Inspect and repair building envelope such as, roofs, windows, doors, and gutters.
7. Operate cars, vans, lifts, bucket trucks and other heavy equipment.
8. Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Read and write sufficiently to complete related paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints. 
Working knowledge of other building trades and general building maintenance.
Represent the airport in a professional manner and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and tenants. 
Follow verbal and written instructions.


Physical Requirements:
Spends about 70% of the time standing, bending, reaching, walking and driving.  The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, keeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, shoveling and carrying.  Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.  About 5% of time can lift, pull or carry up to 100 lbs a short distance, with another person.

Works inside and outside.  May include exposure to machinery, dust, chemicals, fumes, solvents, moving objects/vehicles, scaffolding, ladders, vibrating tools, excessive noise, large crowds and slippery or uneven surfaces.  May use a variety of electrical and hand tools.

Minimum Qualifications

One year related work experience

OR

High School Graduate or Equivalent
