Summary
This position is in the Engineering Services Division of the General Services Department.
This position is responsible for performing project management for transportation infrastructure projects and providing technical services in support of the Community Investment Program.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Apply engineering design principles to Management of multi-department project teams in the planning, design, Real Estate, Utility relocation and construction of municipal capital projects.
- Manage engineering contracts including preparation of scopes of services, reviews of invoices, day to day activities, purchase order creation and related tasks.
- Create and review estimates for municipal transportation infrastructure projects initiated by the City and/or NCDOT
- Provide extensive public relations and serve as the project liaison to the public, property owners, media, other government agencies, and other City departments/officials regarding assigned projects.
- Manage the administrative aspects of assigned projects: negotiates and monitors budget and expenditures.
- Update project schedules and monitor progress of project in meeting established schedule.
- Coordinate with State and Federal agencies for projects with alternate funding sources.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough engineering project management experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in civil engineering or municipal capital improvement projects.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with others.
- Ability to develop technical reports.
- Ability to comprehend, assess and apply fundamental engineering and construction principles to project initiation, planning, implementation and closeout.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.
- Knowledge of and ability to use conflict resolution techniques.
- Ability to effectively direct and guide teamwork efforts.
- Effective computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel)
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- Use sound engineering judgment with minimal supervision.
- Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of transportation design
- Considerable knowledge of modern transportation engineering methods and techniques.
- Attention to detail and the ability to read and understand complex plat/plans.
- Requires good driving record, valid Driver’s License, and a dependable passenger vehicle. On occasion, attendance at evening meetings may be required.
Preferred Qualification
- Five (5) or more years of experience in civil engineering, including experience in geometric roadway design and storm drainage design
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field with three (3) years of relevant work experience in civil engineering
Salary
- $81,179 - $101,473 Commensurate with experience
