Summary

The Network Lead at the CLT Airport is responsible for installing and configuring network devices, performing network maintenance, and troubleshooting.  Additional responsibilities may include system administration, network design, complex implementation projects, and training or reviewing the work of lower levels in the career family.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Manages, maintains, protects, and builds technology infrastructure. Provides support and implements technology needs.
• Provides design, implements, and maintains wireless connectivity for users.
• Manages all Layer 2/3 networking infrastructure for the aviation environment. 
• Monitors and responds to any network, VPN, or wireless issues across WAN/LAN. Resolves trouble tickets, responds to alerts for switches and wireless access points down, and replaces failed devices.
• Implements and manages monitoring and alerting solutions for WAN/LAN and wireless networks.
• Provides design, implementation, and deployment assistance on various projects from all departments in City.
• Supports, configures, programs, upgrades, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs networks and system components, power supplies, peripherals, and software programs.
• Monitors customer inquiries and ensures appropriate and timely solutions.
• Assists with design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of primary and secondary datacenters.
• Assists with setting long term strategy for network environment.
• Maintain Documentation and Records for all network systems and diagrams.
• Plan and implement change requests and cutover schedules for networked systems for the Airport.
• Assist airport consultants and engineers in the design and implementation of networked Systems for Capital projects.
• Assist in creating and maintaining the Airport Networking Infrastructure Standard.
• Research new and emerging network products for inclusion to Airport Standard Systems.
• Acts as a SME technical resource for vendors, peers, and junior networking technicians/engineers.
• Performs related work as required.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work requires providing guidance and the potential to oversee another employee.  This position may oversee work quality, training, instructing, and work assignments.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:
• English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping
• Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
• Information security principles
• Strong knowledge in Local and wide area network design and architecture
• Knowledge of Firewall configuration and maintenance.
• Networking components such as routers, modems, switches, and servers
• Principles and practices of the design, installation, and maintenance of voice, data, and communications networks and applications

• Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.

• Provide strategic planning, network design, and technical oversight of the city data network.

Preferred Qualification

At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field- 
Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in network design, administration, IT infrastructure and firewall support 
Expert Quality of Service understanding and configuration, able to customize across all platforms to support Voice, Video, and/or selected applications:
Intermediate to expert with 802.1q vlans and Extreme Fabric environments
Experience maintaining and managing critical network infrastructure for Large Campus and Data Center environments.
Ability to engineer, build and test wireless network for optimum coverage and reliability.
Hands on experience in layer 2-3 protocols

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent and seven years relevant work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and five years relevant work experience

OR

Bachelor's level degree and three years relevant work experience

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
