Summary

CLT Airport is seeking talented Visual Artists with a focus on live painting/drawing to join the Art Department for the 2024-2025 year. The goal of the live performing artists is to promote a positive environment while integrating live painting/drawing in the airport terminal. The Artist will report to Art Manager.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport engages Artist in Residence (AIR) in a range of artistic activities that allow them to learn about painting as an art form.  AIR Artists perform by project but the ideal candidate would plan and execute lively paintings that are realistic and abstract, weekly through the school year.
Artists will typically work offsite from the CLT terminal on the secure side. They will interact in a positive way with the public and can hold conversation while executing their approved project and speak at length about the process that they are executing.  This artist has a strong commitment to sharing various ways of positive Story-Telling that would attract and appeal to the public.

All applicants must successfully pass and maintain an active TSA Security Threat Assessment (STA) and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore be excluded from employment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform live painting/drawing at various concourses in the secure side of the airport terminal.
  • Use of acrylic, gouache, watercolor, chalk, pastels, etc, on canvas/ paper.
  • Engage and interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Ensure drawings/painting are lively, flattering, avoiding offensive content. No customization or request.
  • Maintain high productivity and quality standards within tight timeframes.

Preferred Qualification

Experience in painting/drawing 
Ability to work quickly and efficiently with basic coloring skills.
End resulting in a realistic portrayal of people, animals or landscapes
Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
Must be available a prescribed number of evenings and weekends.
Reliable transportation
Punctuality and a strong work ethic

Minimum Qualifications

Painting/Drawing: 1 year (Preferred)
Formal education (secondary education; college or 3 years of live performance experience)

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
