Summary
This role is responsible for working within the city’s Wellness Works program to develop and implement dynamic health and wellness initiatives in a workplace environment that enhance employee physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct needs assessments and surveys to understand identify employees' health and wellness needs.
- Design and implement comprehensive wellness programs covering physical fitness, nutrition, stress management, substance use, financial wellness, mental health, and overall well-being.
- Educate employees through a variety of wellness programs, including health awareness initiatives such as bulletin boards, newsletters and book clubs, educational campaigns such as stress management and sleep workshops, behavior change programs like weight management and health challenges, wellness related events such as biometric screenings, athletic events, onsite programs, health fairs, fitness.
- Develop robust communication strategies to promote wellness programs actively and engage employees in participation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of wellness programs through data analysis, surveys, and feedback to make informed adjustments and improvements.
- Manage all aspects of wellness event planning, from program development and promotion to registration, logistics, execution, and post-event evaluation.
- Utilize in-depth knowledge of city benefits and resources to offer guidance and coordinate care effectively.
- Cultivate a culture of wellness across various worksites and throughout the city.
- Work closely with the wellness manager, benefit team, wellness ambassadors, and leaders from city departments to develop and implement health promotion campaigns.
- Collaborate with vendor partners to integrate vendor offerings into the organization’s wellness programs and initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, vendors, and other stakeholders to promote wellness initiatives and encourage participation.
- Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive wellness programs that address various aspects of employee well-being, such as physical fitness, nutrition, mental health, and stress management.
- Experience with population health management.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and resources effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to inspire and motivate employees to participate actively in wellness programs and adopt healthier lifestyle behaviors.
- Flexibility to adapt wellness programs to changing organizational needs and industry trends, as well as innovation in introducing new initiatives and approaches to enhance employee well-being.
- Demonstrated empathy and understanding when working with individuals.
- Awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences and diverse needs within the workforce, ensuring wellness programs are inclusive and accessible to all employees.
- High level of proficiency in handling sensitive and confidential situations and information.
- Capable of working independently and managing multiple responsibilities, as well as working collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Flexibility to maintain working hours that meet the needs of the workforce, including occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to function within all levels of organization and at various locations throughout the city.
Preferred Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in a wellness-related field (Health Promotion/Education, Health Science, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Psychology).
- Master’s degree and wellness-related certification, Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) Certification or National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBHWC) preferred.
- Strong customer service, facilitation, collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
- Minimum of three years of work experience in a wellness-related field, including health coaching and designing, implementing, and facilitating wellness programs.

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years related work experience

Bachelor's Degree and one level related work experience

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
