Summary

The Forensic Cold Case Analyst is a professional, part-time Grant Funded position assigned to the CMPD Cold Case Unit that will be responsible for assisting sworn personnel with cold case analysis. The Forensic Cold Case Analyst will act as a forensic liaison between the CMPD Crime Lab personnel and investigative personnel to communicate technical laboratory findings and assist with establishing an inventory of qualifying unresolved violent crime cold cases within the CMPD's jurisdiction.
This is a part-time, Grant-Funded position with an end date of 09/30/2026.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Prioritize and establish an inventory of all suitable cases within the CMPD for Forensic Genetic Genealogy (FGG) testing.
Extrapolate complex FGG data from reports in order to make a more manageable. investigative plan.
Conduct follow-up investigations as needed with the Sexual Assault Cold Case and Homicide Detectives.
Foster strong working relationships with outside partners such as vendor labs and SAKI partners.
Maintain the most current knowledge of FGG costs and techniques.
Update supervisors quarterly on the progress of all Forensic Genealogy investigations.
Enter all FGG eligible cases into the Violent Criminal Apprehension System (ViCAP).
Work in conjunction with CMPD laboratory personnel to review existing laboratory. (CMPD and vendor) reports, develop case specific evidence testing plans and prioritize cases from the inventory for testing.
Enter criteria cases into the Violent Criminal Apprehension (ViCAP) system.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong analytical, communication and data analysis skills
Knowledge of criminal investigation tools and databases
ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: grasping, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.


Physical Requirements:
• Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods
• Occasional movement throughout the workday daily to interact with staff and accomplish tasks
• Communicating both verbally and written in order to exchange information
• Repeating motions of holding, grasping, turning, that may include the wrist,   hands, and/or fingers
• Light to moderate lifting and carrying
• Lift up to 50 pounds
• Work primarily in office environment
• Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, copier, fax machine, and phone


Sensory Requirements:
• Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proof reading, data entry, tabulating data
• Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain
• Comprehension of written information in work related documents
• Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech


Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions; moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as officers, community members, victims, etc.); and frequent exposure to computer screens, files and phone.

Preferred Qualification

Experience in Criminal Investigations/Crime Analysis

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and one year related work experience

OR

Master's Degree
