Summary

The Layer 1 Infrastructure Lead at the CLT Airport is responsible for installing and configuring network devices, performing network maintenance, and troubleshooting.  Additional responsibilities may include system administration, network design, complex implementation projects, and training or reviewing the work of lower levels in the career family.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Manages, maintains, protects, and builds technology infrastructure. Provides support and implements technology needs.
• Provides design, implements, and maintains wireless connectivity for users.
• Manages all Layer 1 cabling Infrastructure for the switch networks and virtual server environments. 
• Monitors and responds to any network, VPN, or wireless issues across WAN/LAN. Resolves trouble tickets, responds to alerts for switches and wireless access points down, and replaces failed devices.
• Implements and manages monitoring and alerting solutions for WAN/LAN and wireless networks.
• Provides design, implementation, and deployment assistance on various projects from all departments in City.
• Supports, configures, programs, upgrades, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs voice networks and system components, power supplies, peripherals, and software programs.
• Troubleshoots issues that occur after initial installation of data cabling (fiber/copper).
• Monitors customer inquiries and ensures appropriate and timely solutions.
• Assists with design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of primary and secondary datacenters.
• Assists with setting long term strategy for Layer 1 cabling environment.
• Evaluate Design, implement, and manage informal Telecommunications projects which includes bid document creation, site walks with contractors, review of bids and award of contract. Also, management of the project as well as project closeout.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all Category and Non-Category based copper cabling, Backbone and Horizontal, for the entire Airport Campus which includes tenants and sub tenants.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all Optical Fiber based cabling, Backbone and Horizontal, for the entire Airport Campus which includes tenants and sub tenants.
• Maintain Documentation and Records for all cabling systems, optical fiber, radio systems, specialty systems, cabling pathways both inside the terminal and the outside campus environment.
• Plan and implement cross connect and cutover schedules for system rollout for Airport and Tenant systems.
• Maintain and manage over 4000 item stock for maintaining the Structured Cabling environment for the Airport.
• Maintain all testing supplies and equipment, including Warranties, SLAs, Calibration, Software and Firmware updates.
• Provide access and escort for contractors, engineers, consultants etc. for various needs in and around the Airport Campus.
• Manage and maintain the airport’s Preferred Contractors for cabling installation services.
• Manage and maintain the Cabling MACD Contractor(s) for the Airport including scheduling, supplies and materials, and Quality Assurance.
• Manage and maintain over 200 communications rooms and/or spaces campus wide.
• Perform Telecommunication Infrastructure Audits on new and existing systems, to ensure quality, applicable industry standards compliance as well as code compliance.
• Assist upper management with future planning of Telecommunications Infrastructure.
• Assist airport consultants and engineers in the design and implementation of Telecommunications Systems for Capital projects.
• Assist in creating and maintaining the Airport Communications Infrastructure Standard.
• Research new and emerging Telecommunications products for inclusion to Airport Standard Systems.
• Performs related work as required.

Preferred Qualification

• Must hold a BICSI Installer II certification. BICSI Certified Technician Certification is preferred.
• At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field- 
• Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in Layer1 network design, administration, IT infrastructure and firewall support 
• Expert Quality of Service understanding and configuration, able to customize across all platforms to support Voice, Video, and/or selected applications:
• Intermediate to expert with 802.1q vlans and OSPF routing protocol
• Experience building, testing and troubleshooting fiber optic networks
• Understanding of 802.11B,G,N in both the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies
• Ability to engineer, build and test wireless network for optimum coverage and reliability
• Hands on experience in layer1-3 protocols


Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent and seven years relevant work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and five years relevant work experience

OR

Bachelor's level degree and three years relevant work experience
