Summary

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) Airside Operations is responsible for coordination and regulatory compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other federal, state, and city government rules and regulations. Airside Operations is responsible for maintaining an active FAA Airport Operating Certificate under Part 139, as well as upholding the Airport Certification Manual approved by the FAA. Airside Operations Wildlife Coordinators perform skilled work including hazardous wildlife control activities as described in the airport Wildlife Hazard Management Plan.  Duties include harassment and dispersal, trapping, and removal of wildlife deemed hazardous to safe aircraft operations.  Wildlife coordinators must act decisively and exercise independent judgment within established rules, regulations, and procedures in accordance with ethical and legal boundaries as well as best management practices.

General Information: 
Must be able to work various shifts as assigned, including holidays, weekends, and on call to support a 24/7 operation.  Shifts are subject to change based on operational need.  Subject to call backs during emergencies, urgent situations, special events, and inclement weather.  Overtime may be offered and/or mandated when needed.
This position is deemed essential, and employees are subject to mandatory overtime. This position is not eligible for teleworking. 
Accessibility by phone during off duty hours to assist in the response to urgent issues and other unforeseen circumstances is required and expected when assigned on call.
Must receive a pre-rabies vaccine as a preventative measure within the first 6 months of hire.
Must successfully pass and maintain an active Security Threat Assessment (STA) and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment. 
Valid driver license in state of residence and maintain a City driving permit.   
Must obtain and maintain Movement Area Driver’s endorsement within 90 days of employment. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1.     Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Airport Certification Manual (ACM), Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP), Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), and other working documents through the Airport’s Self-Inspection program. Enforce Airport established rules and regulations that govern the operation of the airfield and airport employees.  Participates and coordinates in federal programs to comply with FAA and TSA regulations that are required for commercial service airports. Interpret and adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations to ensure the safety and security of all persons and resources on airport property.   
2. Learning, developing, and utilizing skills related to wildlife mitigation including but not limited to discharge of firearms and pyrotechnics, trapping methods, and dispersal techniques. 
3. Conducts inspections and daily patrols of the airfield and other airport property critical to wildlife hazard management to identify, locate and mitigate wildlife hazards to aircraft operations. 
4. Maintains continuous readiness to respond to wildlife hazards on airport property. 
5. Documents all actions and observations for analysis by completing forms and reports. 
6. Maintains wildlife control equipment in a safe and operational order. ‘
7. Supports other Airport Operations Sections by performing assistance duties for irregular and emergency operations such as crowd control, fire watches, escorts, and other duties deemed necessary for continuity of operations.
8. Other duties as assigned 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Thorough knowledge of FAR Part 139 associated Advisory Circulars, Aviation departmental rules and regulations and standard operating procedures.
2. Skills to communicate clearly and effectively verbally in person, over the telephone, and over the two-way radio systems.
3. Skills to effectively organize data and prioritize resources during routine and emergency operations.
4. Ability to analyze problems and make effective decisions within safe, legal, ethical, and best management practice constraints. 
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
6. Wildlife trapping skills for both mammals and birds.
7. Bird and wildlife identification skills.
8. Basic computer skills including: Microsoft Office programs, use of internet/email, ability to use electronic devices (i.e. tablets), etc. required. 
 
 
Environmental Requirements: 
Primarily works outside. 
Works in developed and undeveloped areas 
Exposed to machinery, moving objects and vehicles. 
Exposed to dust, sun, precipitation, etc. 
Risk of exposure to zoonotic diseases due to the handling of wild animals.
 
Physical Requirements: 
Extended periods of walking in external environments on uneven terrain. 
Bending, reaching, standing and driving throughout shift. 
Exposure to machinery, moving objects/vehicles, dust, allergens, slippery/uneven surfaces, confined spaces, excessive noise, and chemicals. 
Lifting and carrying equipment 25lbs for 100 yards.
Must be comfortable using firearms. 
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination.
During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
 

Preferred Qualification

Completion of state recognized hunter education/safety program preferred.
Completion of basic firearm competency course preferred. 
Experience conducting wildlife harassment and control in airport environments preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years related work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and three years related work experience

Conditions of Employment
