Summary

This is an administrative, technical, and supervisory position directing the work of one inventory and warehouse assistant to ensure fire station maintenance requests are processed and resolved, requisitions are entered, and purchase orders are received on as required. Maintenance requests include appliance repair / replacement, building mechanical systems malfunctions, pest control, and general building repair. 

Establishes work team priorities based on daily needs, department priorities, and fiscal capacity. Works with vendors to complete the purchase of equipment and supplies.  Serves on the PPE committee and performs equipment evaluations and makes recommendations for purchases.  Ensures that specialized firefighting and life safety PPE is maintained in accordance with recognized standards.

Provides supervision and coordination of the day-to-day responsibilities of the Logistics Division

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises one Inventory and Warehouse Assistant as a direct supervisor.
  • Ensures that all functions of the Inventory and Warehouse Assistant is performed in a timely manner.
  • Develops and initiates plans of action to get stations repaired in the most efficient way possible.
  • Researches and Develops plans to get station appliances and PPE on a life cycle management plan.
  • Maintains positive relationship with the managers of specialized units (dive, USAR, CEU, HazMat, Communications, Fire Prevention and Emergency Management) to make sure all equipment needs are being met.
  • Ensures PPE issue, cleaning and repair records are on file and comply with NFPA 1851.
  • Participates in the planning and execution of PPE distribution to recruit classes.
  • Establishes cleaning and inspection schedule for all fire department PPE within the scope of the logistics division.
  • Maintains an awareness of all OSHA, NIOSH, NFPA regulations and guidelines and work with these agencies as necessary.
  • Research and evaluate new products to ensure that CFD equipment is up to date, efficient and compliant.
  • Coordinates fire equipment evaluations with the equipment committee.
  • Manages budgeted line items to ensure accuracy and spending trends.
  • Complies with City of Charlotte procurement policies.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Other

This position reports directly to the Division Chief of Fire Logistics.

This position supervises one (1) Inventory and Warehouse Assistant.

This position completes PRD’s and approves leave.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable standards and regulations related to Firefighter protective clothing. 
  • Basic PC literacy.
  • Proficiency with MUNIS, CFDNET and other CFD inventory control systems.
  • Knowledge of basic firefighting tools and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work together with other employees to accomplish complex assignments.
  • Ability to research and troubleshoot unique challenges related to equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to build relationships with other City of Charlotte Divisions and outside vendors.

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical conditions necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required.

Sensory Requirements:

Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proofreading, data entry, and tabulating data.

  • Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and/or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain.
  • Comprehensive written information in work-related documents.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions, moderate exposure to environmental conditions and frequent exposure to computer screens, files, and phone.

 

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of firefighting PPE.
  • Experience in scheduling maintenance repairs with internal and external maintenance teams.
  • Knowledge of NC procurement rules and regulations.


Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduation or Equivalent and five years of relevant work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and three years of relevant work experience

$57,691.48/year
