Summary

The City of Charlotte's Business Inclusion Office (CBI) seeks a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of CBI University Coordinator.  The CBI University Coordinator will be instrumental in managing and spearheading "CBI University," an innovative initiative designed to centralize and enhance education programs for Minority, Women, and Small Business Enterprises (MWSBEs) in the city.  This role is crucial in fostering the growth and capacity development of MWSBEs through structured educational and training programs.  The CBI University Coordinator will report directly to the Business Inclusion Officer.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of CBI University.
  • Centralize, coordinate and align educational programs offered by both internal city departments and external partner organizations.
Assessment and Counseling:
  • Conduct in-depth assessments of prospective MWSBE participants.
  • Provide tailored counseling to guide businesses towards educational programs that align with their specific goals and needs.
Program Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Develop and implement effective mechanisms to track and evaluate the success and impact of CBI University’s offerings.
  • Generate and present regular reports to the Business Inclusion Officer on program outcomes.
Recruitment and Outreach:
  • Engage in active recruitment and outreach efforts.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to identify and attract potential MWSBE participants, ensuring diverse and inclusive representation in CBI University programs.
Mentor Protégé Program Management:
  • Develop, assist with launching, administer, and enhance the CBI Mentor Protégé Program.
  • Facilitate mentorship connections between established businesses and MWSBEs to promote knowledge sharing, skills development, and business growth.
Strategic Alignment:
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that CBI University’s educational offerings are strategically aligned with contractual opportunities in the city.
  • Focus on enhancing the competitiveness and capabilities of MWSBEs within the contractual landscape.
External Consultant Coordination:
  • Work closely with the external consultant hired to administer the ancillary technical assistance program designed to support and develop CBI's higher-performing companies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in program management, business development, or related areas.
  • Demonstrated understanding of MWSBE development needs and challenges.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with website design and content management systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for fostering the growth and success of MWSBEs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders and a solid understanding of business inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Education, or a related field or equivalent education, experience and skills.  A Master’s degree is preferred.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
